Life in Phuket

How long have you been in
Phuket andwhat brought you
here?
I arrived in Phuket in December 1987
as part of a trip around the world but
I never went any farther. I started
blogging as it was like writing a diary; a
way of documenting my life.
Howhas Phuket changed you?
After living here half my life, I’m
probably a lot less English than I was.
Until last December I hadn’t been back
to the United Kingdom in 20 years
and I felt like an alien there. I’ve also
changed many of myWestern ways
to the Thai ways to the point that I
feel uncomfortable when someone
puts their feet up on a coffee table and
points them in my direction. I only eat
Thai food now. I work on the beach
but never sunbathe or swim and when
it’s hot I grab an umbrella rather than
removing layers of clothing.
Name five places thatmake you
love living in Phuket.
1
Bon Island
It’s my office and home in the daytime
and where I spend most of my life.
2
Koh Kaew (Buddha Island)
It’s
is one of the places that made me
decide to live in Phuket.
