Whenwewent toSvalbard
For thisSvalbardspecial issue,we relocated
thewholemagazine toLongyearbyen–
both theeditorial andsales teamsetup
shopatMary-Ann’sPolarrigg, thewonderful old
miner’s rig runby the inimitableMary-Ann.We
didwork, though therewasa lotof snowmobiling,
dog-sledding, laughingandeatinggreat food
thrown in, too.
Partly,wewanted tocreate thenorthernmost
issueof an inflightmagazineevermade (we think
wedid), butweweremoredrivenbycuriosity.We
made this issue in lateMarch/earlyApril,dragging
wooden recreationsofour logoaround theplace,
butover thepastyearwe’vealsosentwritersand
photographers toSvalbard in thesummermonths.
Wehope thisstorywillbevalidwhetheryougo to
findmidnight sun, totaldarknessor something in
between (aswedid).Turn topage40 toseewhy
wedecided todevote30pages to this remarkable
