OurSvalbardphotographers
We’ve sent threephotographers to Svalbardover thecourse
of thepast year. TomRobinson (
above right
) stayed at the
remoteNordenskiöld Lodge, Svalbard’smost northerly
commercial cabin, whereheat comes fromburningwood
and thewater comes from the glacier of the samename.
He alsodonned this rather attractive suit for a kayaking
trip. RebeccaMarshall (
left
) had amorecivilised time in
Spitsbergenon theHurtigruten ship
MSFram
, seeingwhales,
polar bears andwalruseswhen shewasn’t drinking cocktails
in theon-deck Jacuzzi. Finally, TimEWhite (
top left
) was
with theentireNorwegian teamwhenwe spent just over a
week in Longyearbyen at theendofMarch. He tookmore
than 7,000photos, just about avoiding frostbite inhis fingers
– admittedly, quite a fewwereof us larking around, but the
lion’s sharewereof Longyearbyen’s stunning scenery and
hardy, fascinating inhabitants.
