Polishing is typically a dry process that uses ground-up corn cob media with embedded polishing compound. Dry processing can also be done with ground-up walnut shells.

Mass finishing using a centrifugal tumbler barrel can be done wet or dry. Wet processes may use a liquid solvent, cleaner, or abrasive. Dry processes do not. Each barrel can be filled with approximately 50 to 80% of its capacity using the following elements:

A centrifugal barrel tumbler works on a principle similar to a Ferris wheel, with smaller baskets mounted on the edges of a large wheel. A centrifugal finishing machine, or harperizing system, has 4 barrels, each barrel representing a seat on a Ferris wheel, and one large flywheel. Each revolution of the flywheel results in one complete rotation of each barrel. The fast-turning flywheel generates extremely high centrifugal forces, up to 15 – 20 times the force of gravity, causing the contents to slide against each other under high pressure. The increased pressure allows for fast processing times of metal parts, as well as smooth, consistent finishes.

The FC 10 Automatic Collator can be described as one of the most versatile and flexible collators currently on the market. It's reliable and easy-to-use, interfaces well with a number of bookletmakers, such as the Gulf States Saw & Machinery Co., Inc. Scrams, and SF2 series.

Flat parts making you feel confused? Flat parts, such as washers, present the greatest challenge for centrifugal bar finishing. These parts can stick to the barrel or wick together, so only one side of the barrel gets deburred. You can add glass beads blasting media to the centrifugal bar finishing process. The beads coat the parts, so they don't stick to each other and the barrel. Parts that tend to be coiled together can also use glass beads.

Our dry metal machines serve industries in woodworking, metalworking, composites, and plastics to allow for more uniform and efficient finishing processes. We distribute our products all over North America to corresponding industries in an effort to help them achieve the best possible finish.

Mass finishing is a collection of manufacturing processes which apply surface finishing on large quantities of parts at once. Mass finishing is when loose metal parts are placed into a container. The container moves and creates friction that causes friction on the metal surface. This friction leads to a cutting action which can result in any type of polishing or heavy grinding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Finishing operations, also known as finishing manufacturing, occur at the end of the manufacturing process, after the part has been formed and secondary processes have been completed.
