HOME FAQS:
How do I go beyond Central Plaza to other areas of HOME?
Go to the controller and push Start. Select Navigator. Scroll left and right, up and down on the Navigator until you find a location you want to explore. Click on that location and wait for it to download. As soon as it downloads, you click on it and you materialize at that location. Now wait for the HDD wheel in the upper right hand corner of your screen to stop spinning before you try to move. A location you have been to previously will load much faster than one you just loaded now. If you really like this location, designate it as one of your favorites so you can find it easily next time you want to go there.
Where do I get more clothes for free?
One of the best places for free items is Irem Square. Be sure to go to each of the shops. You do not have to spend any money to get the free items. Also, many new promotions in CP and in the Theatre will offer free t-shirts. Also check the Home Forums each day at http://bit.ly/Home-Forums because Forum users are the best at posting notices of freebies, where and how.
Go to the Singstar Rooms and dance. You'll unlock T-shirts for spending time there, doing the Rock and Roll dance on the dance floor (or is it Rock? Why do we have both?) and using the Video selector next to the dance floor.
Go to the Motorstorm Carrier. Go to the Merch Table near the entrance, and talk to the girl who works there. This will start a quest that unlocks some cool clothes.
If you like LittleBigPlanet even a little, go to the LBP space and play Snap Happy by walking up to the King on the second floor. This unlocks a bunch of cool LBP ornaments.
Go to the Assassins Creed space and play the Eagle Vision game, then enter the Hideout and look up Ezios profile to unlock a furniture reward. You can win more furniture by playing the Vendetta game, which is in the floor of the room with the big video screen.
What is a keyboard for HOME?
Many people in Home will treat you better if you can respond quickly. Trying to hunt and peck in one letter at a time can cost you a conversation. This means buying a keypad that will work with a PS3. Most video game stores that sell PS3s also sell accessories that work with a PS3 or can direct you to one that does. It also means you need to learn how to type on a full keyboard if you have never done so before!
What is a headset for HOME?

Some chat possibilities are also available in HOME, especially in a Club Room or in your personal space, if you and the people you are talking to also have a headset. It can get interesting when the avatar definitely does not match the voice! Once again, most video game stores will have a selection of blue-tooth type options and earphones for use with a PS3.
If I hear people discussing something that interests me; is it OK to add a comment?
Common courtesy applies here as it does in real life. You are eavesdropping. This means you ask if you may make a comment. A remark such as, "I couldn't help hearing what you said. That is really interesting. May I ask you a question?" will increase the possibility that you will be invited to join the conversation. If, however, they tell you it is a private conversation, respect their wishes, thank them, and move away.
How do I make friends in HOME?
Best advice: stop using the questions, "What is your name?" Their avatar name if above their head. If they want you to call them something else, they will tell you after they get to know you, "Where are you from?" is another personal question - and so is, "How old are you?" The best way to meet someone new in Home is to ask about Home: "I am new in here. What activities can you recommend?" "Where did you buy those shoes; I really like them." "Which games in here are the most fun to play?" "Any recommendations on best places to explore first?"
And, best advice of all: spell correctly and completely. Many of the people you meet in HOME are from another country. English is not their first language. You want to be understood. "Sup?" means 'to dine' in their English dictionary. And "Wat" is not in there at all. Plus, you do not want to appear to be illiterate unless you have pre-determined that the person you are addressing is.
[Where do I find other people who like to play (name of game)?
First and fastest place is the Forums where there are sections for almost every game that can be played on a PS3. Also check the announcements when you sign in for the list of games being played in the Gamers' Lounge. You can also find gamer clubs in the club list in PSHT (www.playstationhometoday.com).
What do I do when someone shoves his face in my lap?
First: stay calm. Usually this is a 'griefer' who is trying to get attention and will leave if you refuse to respond. If they do not leave, say, "This is your warning. Stop immediately or I will report you for sexual harassment. And I will ask others in this vicinity who see what you are doing to report you also." Most of these people know that HOME does not take these reports lightly and they risk being banned.
Usually this is sufficient to convince them to leave. If not, press the Select Button. Then press Submit a Report and follow the instructions. Also put this person on your Block list so you will no longer see or hear any of their comments.
What is a 'personal space' - do I need to buy one?
A personal space is just that - all yours to decorate anyway you like. Most start at $4.99 for the empty space. Some include built-in games - like the London Pub with the dart game.
You are not required to buy one. It is strictly a matter of choice - do you want a space in addition to the Harbour Studio? What would you do with it if you had one? You can see the list in the Estates Store and also look at the furniture packs that are offered. Weigh how much it will cost to buy and furnish this new space versus what you would do with it.
What are these 'fams' that I keep getting invited to join?
There are hundreds of groups ranging from small to huge in HOME of people who like to role-play being a 'gang' Most of them have officers, meetings, rules of conduct, and specific group activities. Some are 'gangsta/Mafia' oriented while others are friends who like to hang out together socially. You will probably receive many recruitment invitations. If you are not interested, just say so. And if you are interested, ask what sort of activities they do, what would be your time commitment, what duties would be assigned to you, and what role do they see themselves filling in Home.
What places are the best for meeting new people in a social situation?
What free activities are available in HOME?
There are many free and paid activities in Home. The best free ones are the bowling alley where you can also play pool, the Sodium space where there are free games to play and probably the Red Bull area where there are also free games. If you want to you can also go dancing at the Singstar space or at the plaza and there is usually a game to play in plaza as well.
How do I buy things in HOME if I don't have a credit card?
Go to your nearby Game Stop or Best Buy and buy a PSN card. They come in denominations of $10.00 (only available at Best Buy) $20.00 and $50.00.
[What should I do when people ask for personal information?
First, be cautious. Why do they need this information? Ask them why they need to know and tell them you are not comfortable giving out that information. Second, Do not give away any information that could be used in identity theft: real name, address, birthdate, telephone number, Facebook id, or any other clues that could make it possible for a stranger to apply for a credit card using your personal information or that a mentally unstable person could use to locate you in real life.
What is a 'cam' or 'eye-cam'?
This is an optional item that can be attached to your PS3 for use in a Home chat room. It will show you on that screen and allow you to see them. Some people will ask you to a chat room so they can determine if you really are a girl. Others might be interested in seeing if you look as good as your avatar. And some, unfortunately, are looking for cyber-sex. Unless you have been in Home long enough to have formed a deep friendship with someone you have come to trust, an eye-cam session might be something less than you hoped for.
How do I get away from someone who is harassing or stalking me?
First, look around you. Is there anyone in the vicinity who has been observing what is happening? Ask them to help you by also filing a Report on the harasser. You choose the Select button on your controller. Second item in the list that opens is "Block" - choose that selection and follow the instructions. Then proceed further down that list and choose "Submit a Report". Tell the harasser that you have Blocked (muted) them and sent a report to the Moderators identifying their behavior. Tell them that if they continue, you will keep reporting them for each infraction. In some instances, you might also want to take their picture with the built-in camera in Home. Keep it in your photo file. It might come in handy.
What does 'banned' mean? What activities in HOME can get you banned?
Banned means that you are basically booted out of Home and not allowed to return for a specified period of time. It is usually a week the first time, but this is at the discretion of Sony. If the infraction is serious enough they can ban you permanently from not only Home but from their network. Things that will get you banned are listed under the submit a report in your select menu. If you hit select button it will give you a list. But also there is spamming, which is continually using the preset sayings in your L1 file like Hello, Goodbye, ect. Stalking is widely discouraged, if someone doesn’t want you around just leave them alone. Use foul language will also get you banned as will glitching your clothing, or just being a general nuisance. The big rule in Home is just be nice and you won’t get in any trouble.
