The base container package type can be defined in an ERP package and imported into the PFEP application or can be defined manually.  If the customer chooses to import packaging types values from an ERP package, any changes made to the packaging component section by a business user will be overwritten during the next import process.

To define the base container manually:

1. Click Select next to Base Component in the Packaging Component section.
2. When the dialog box appears, select the packaging type from the drop down menu that will be used to ship the part number specified at the top of the sheet. If your packaging type is not in the drop down list, see Add New Packaging Type.
3. If that packaging type is currently sourced from only one vendor, the packaging item field will automatically be populated for you.  If that packaging type is sourced through more than one vendor, choose the vendor specific packaging item number from the drop down list.

• Note: After selecting your base container the appropriate dimensions will be populated on the bottom of the PDS.
• Note: If the base container packaging type has a default unit load specified, the unit load characteristics will be automatically populated on the bottom of the PDS. See Add a Package Type.

4. Click Update to save your base container selection and return to the PDS.
