Orderly Immigration:
Creating a New America

Facebook Seminar

The United States of America has serious immigration problems.
This Facebook Seminar will acknowledge all of these problems,
but it will not dwell on what is wrong with the present laws and practices,
since the problems are all well known
to anyone who is paying enough attention to want to join this seminar.

Less well discussed are the various ways to solve the problems of immigration,
without doing serious harm to any of the human beings involved
and without unintentionally creating new problems
by means of the new laws and regulations
that were supposed to solve the original problems.

Immigration reform should make the system less complex
not simply add another layer of details
on top of the regulations already in place,
making the new system of immigration so complicated
that only an immigration lawyer can understand
what must be done to emigrate to the USA.

Our seminar takes place by means of this Facebook Group:
U.S. IMMIGRATION & ASYLUM REFORM: REASONABLE MIDDLE PATHWAYS:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/431865303561834/

Each week a new theme is introduced
one of the chapters listed below.
Then all of the others in the FB Group are invited to respond
with questions, comments, & further thoughts on the same theme.

The major advantage of having a Facebook Group
over having an e-mailing list is that the participants
can get to know one another better,
since many of us use our real faces on Facebook.
Even if we use some other picture or icon,
each member of this seminar has a different visual symbol.

When a member of the Facebook Group writes something,
it is sent to all of the other members by means of e-mail.
(If we set our Notifications to "All Posts".)

And because most comments are in response to a specific chapter,
they appear in the Facebook display
under the posting to which the member is responding.

Because this Facebook Seminar is part of an already-active group,
the other postings will continue as before.
These postings are generally in response to items in the news.
This discussion of current issues in immigration
will continue alongside the exploration of long-term solutions.
And members are invited to comment on this week's issues
in the main display for this Facebook Group.

The chapters of Orderly Immigration are presented as Files
in this on-going Facebook Group.
The 700+ members of this Facebook Group are the first readers
of Orderly Immigration: Creating a New America.
All readers are encouraged to express their agreements and disagreements.

(Such comments can help to revise the book,
perhaps making Orderly Immigration a meaningful contribution
toward comprehensive immigration reform in the USA.)

Our relaxed schedule makes it possible for members
who has been out of touch with the group for a week or so
to catch up with the discussion by posting responses to each of the chapters
as they were originally posted
and to any of the earlier responses.

The plan to have weekly discussions is not rigid.
Perhaps one of the earlier discussions will have so much response
and further reactions to the first responses
that it would be counter-productive to introduce a new chapter
until everyone has had full opportunity to comment on the earlier theme.

If we miss a week, we will simply resume where we left off.

And new chapters might be added as we proceed.
The following table of contents presents the book as it now stands.
Each chapter title links to that full chapter on the Internet.

Our organized discussions began when about 100 people
had joined our Facebook Group:
U.S. IMMIGRATION & ASYLUM REFORM: REASONABLE MIDDLE PATHWAYS:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/431865303561834/
Facebook shows how many people are signed up as of today.
Perhaps you know others on Facebook who would like to join.
Please invite them.

A new discussion began in early 2021.
