Rainy to Dijon...stopped for coffee/lunch
in Nuits-St-George, where we dripped
all over the floor

We arrived in Dijon pretty soaked;
a roaring fire at Le Gril'Laur at dinner
was most welcome (jb)

We had excellent wood-fired pizza,
salad, etc.  (jb)

And more Belgian beer!

Our hotel in Dijon, the Sofitel La
Cloche - our windows were those
immediately above the HE on the sign

The Arc de Triomphe in Dijon,
also known as La Porte Guillaume on
place Darcy, was right outside the hotel

Sign for a bike rally, but we'd
already be gone

Cycled along the Canal de
Bourgogne to Pont de Pany - liked
this bird topiary near the canal

Self photo!

Continuing thru Valley de L'Ouche
past old aqueducts, now railroad
bridges

Still working on self-photo technique

Continuing on...blue skies, yay

Back to Dijon

When in Dijon, one must buy mustard...
and the place is the venerable Maille
shop (sorry, no Grey Poupon)

New tram in Dijon - opened literally
two weeks before we arrived  (jb)

Medieval architecture in
Dijon - seems very Alsatian
or German to us, half-timbered
and all

Strolling thru Dijon; note more
glazed tile roofs

The streets downtown now
being turned into a pedestrian
zone

La Chouette
- little owl - the symbol
of Dijon, now convenient markers for
a self-guided walking tour  (jb)

The original owl, now rather
worn, on the Notre Dame church

Saint-Michel church

L'aterlier des Chefs - our cooking
school adventure the last night in
Dijon

Some enjoyed some wine and
hors d'oeuvres..

...while others worked...

Robert, John B, Ron P, Sully
don aprons!

Robert working on dessert

The real chef (watched by JF)
working on the fluffy champagne
emulsion

John B spooning currants into
the tart shells

Liza adding the batter to the currants
(jb)

The baked product...yum...who needs
dinner?

Our turn to relax while the other half
cooked the main course (salmon)

A nicely set table

Our group's salad - spinach
with figs, mozzarella, basil and
prosciutto, topped with a honey
vinaigrette

The currant tart with the champagne
mix and a cookie resembling a
madeleine

In the Dijon public market the next
morning

Lots of fresh produce outside...

...and permanent stalls inside

Gorgeous variety of just about
everything

Too bad Sierra Vista can't have anything
like this - or even Tucson!  (jb)

Sob.  (jb)

Dijon train station - looking much
spiffier than when we visited in 2003.
(jb)

On the platform waiting for our fast
train to Paris - Robert, Sully, John B

Robert on the platform

VBT leaders Audrey and JF

Here it comes!  (jb)

Obligatory train photo for the
collection

...and Liza's too
