We're headed towards Beaune along
the Route des Grands Crus

Robert on the road ... we're in serious
wine country now (jb)

Vineyards of the Côte de Beaune (jb)

Harvest time!  (jb)

A cabotte, where wine-growers used
to store their tools in bad weather

Grapes waiting to be harvested

This area has 7 of Burgundy's 8
Grand Crus (basically, producing wine
we'll never be able to buy)

John B surveying the vineyards

Continuing on...the silly looking
plastic on our heads are shower caps,
they do a good job of keeping the rain
out (jb)

Home to (they say) one of the finest
Chardonnays in the world  (jb)

Statue dedicated to wine-growers
in Puligny-Montrachet (jb)

Taking a break in Meursault

Snack time!  (jb)

Muddy bike

Meursault's main drag

Continuing on thru the vineyards

Bike path through the vineyards -
this was actually at a wine-making
"school", students in the field

Ron, Robert, JF almost in Beaune

Our hotel in Beaune, Le Cep  (jb)

Robert at Patriarche Père
et Fils winery in Beaune...were
able to sample 12-13 wines
(tiny sips), although the last
5-6 were worth tasting...

Patriarche has 5 km of underground
passages through their cellars -
under the streets of Beaune

Stacked barrels...

...and plenty of wine for sale (we did
buy two premier cru wines, one from
Beaune and the other Aloxe-Corton)

Gates at Patriarche

Dinner that night was at Le Cheval Noir
in Beaune - here some of the appetizers

And of course, wine

Modeling our Burgundy jerseys

Next day! Cycled to Cussigny, here
on the grounds of  Le Moulin de
Cussigney, home and b&b

We're ready for our photos now  (jb)

Turned out well but don't know why
Liza looks so tall

On the grounds

Old mill house

Playing pétanque

Watching the proceedings closely  (jb)

Robert's up!  (jb)

Liza had more of a bowling approach
(jb)

Fresh squash...

Inside the house

Part of our lunch - a gorgeous cheese
and fruit tray - included camembert,
brie, roquefort, comte, chevre...

More lunch
(rp)

Picnicking indoors

What will we eat?  (jb)

Robert relaxing

He's a popular subject

John B enjoying lunch

View from inside

Grape harvest basket

Back on the road - lovely vineyards

Expensive grapes

Only a little wet...

In Beaune, cleaned up, and at a wine
tasting at Bouchard Aȋnés et Fils -
fewer wines but overall better we
thought than most of Patriarche

Notre Dame de Beaune  (jb)

Dinner at Double Sens (jb)

In the breakfast room (basement!)
at Hotel Le Cep, Beaune

Hôtel-Dieu (hospices) in Beaune -
note the glazed tile roofs, a typical
Burgundy style

Inside the Hôtel-Dieu

Beautiful stained glass in the
ward

Hôtel-Dieu courtyard

Robert back in the hotel lobby ...
about to head out on wet roads to
Dijon
