Configuring the DS-Client : Managing system activities : Recovering the DS-Client database

Recovering the DS-Client database
In case of a disaster or other event at your location that requires the replacement of the DS-Client computer, you will need to recover the DS-Client's Database to the new machine. This database is backed up, based on the specification in the DS-Client Configuration - Parameters tab (see “Configuring the parameter settings”).
The recovered database will show data up to the time it was last backed up. Run a Weekly Admin process to ensure that no other data exists on the DS-System that is not in the DS-Client's database. If more data exists, an error will appear and you must synchronize the backup set before any further backup/restore activities may be performed (see “Synchronizing a backup set”).
1. Assemble the replacement DS-Client computer.
2. Install Windows Operating system (same version as previous DS-Client), recreate the user accounts (including the DS-Client account) and then reinstall the DS-Client software.
3. Start the DS-Client Service and run DS-User.
4. Verify the DS-Client’s database patch levels (Help > About DS-User > DS-Client Info: “Database Build”).
5. Setup > System Activities.
6. Click Repair.
The Repair DS-Client screen appears.
F1 Help: "Repair DS-Client screen"
7. Select DS-Client Database or DS-Client & Delta databases.
8. Click OK. A recovery message appears, instructing you to restart the DS-Client service.
9. Stop and Restart the DS-Client service to activate the recovered Database.
10. Run a Weekly Admin process to ensure that the recovered DS-Client database data is not missing any backup sets. If it is, perform a backup set recovery. (See “Recovering orphaned backup sets”.)
11. Follow the steps to Take Ownership of the backup sets (see “Changing the ownership of a backup set”).
12. Verify the DS-Client’s database patch levels again (Help > About DS-User > DS-Client Info).
If the “Database Build” number is less than the number seen in Step 3, the database you recovered is from an older version of DS-Client, and is missing some patches.
13. If the “Database Build” number is less than the number seen in Step 4, re-run the most recent DS-Client service pack upgrade to get back to the same database build.
