Synchronizing a backup set
The backup log of a Online backup set is a table in the DS-Client database that contains the following details of the backup set:
• What is backed up
• Attributes of what is backed up (date, time, size)
• Master/delta generations (file or block signatures)
For various reasons, such as an interrupted backup session or lost connection before confirmation, the backup log can fall out of synchronization with the online storage of DS-System. When that happens, the error Files not in sync will occur, indicating that a backup set is out of sync, and Normal synchronization will be automatically run during Weekly Admin and scheduled backup processes.
There are three types of synchronization: Normal, Full, and Check Only. Normal synchronization corrects discrepancies between the DS-Client backup logs and DS-System’s online storage. When Normal synchronization is performed successfully, files in a backup set will remain visible in the Restore Wizard.
1. In the Backup Sets tree, right-click the required backup set and select Synchronize.
The Select Synchronization Options screen appears.
2. Select Normal as the synchronization method and click Synchronize. The Synchronization Process screen appears.
3. Check for any errors that occurred during the synchronization process.
The error Directory not in Backup Set indicates that a directory is missing prior to synchronization; during Normal synchronization, DS-Client would have added the required directory to the backup set.
