Children have less experience thant adults, so their mind has less to work with. So what's their extra source of imagination? The answer lies in a social aspect which for a long time lay ignored. Children have far fewer inhibitions and so don't dismiss their more wacky ideas. As adults we often don't give our ideas a chance and so they die before they could develop into something fruitful. When brainstorming it is essentially to hold onto even the wackiest ideas.

We are less likely to dismiss our ideas if we are in a receptive environment. You will find that you "click" with some people. You are on the same wavelength, as such. This usually means that you share interests, are intellectually equal but may differ in opinion. These kinds of relationships tend to be win-win, all members benefit and grow. These are very complex and are hard to analyse but basically the ability to bounce ideas off an open and similar mind encourages trying many more ideas out, risk free.
