Why do machine users fight?

The one thing that really pisses me off is one user turning round to another and saying - my machine is better than yours, when they are not joking in any sort of way. The fact is that each machine is best at what is was designed to do.

For example, the Mac is best for new users, who have no idea about the concepts behind computing. PC's are good for raw processing power, e.g. spread sheets and mathematical programs. The Amiga is good for smooth graphics and multitasking. The fact is that the Amiga beats the PC on multitasking, the PC beats the Amiga on processing power, and the Mac beats them both on usability.

Another way of looking at it would be, if one machine is better than another for something, it's better. There should be no arguement about it. I have a PC which I use for making Web Pages, work and some 3D games. I also have an Amiga, which I use for writing graphics routines, and making music. Here's why. The PC is better at work, because of its processing power, better at making web pages, because of it's memory, better at 3D Games because the graphics system used on it is chunky, rather than planar. The Amiga is, strangely enough, better at graphics demos because it has planar graphics, rather than chunky. It is better for making music because it has standardised music hardware. Everyone has the same.

So, next time you hear someone making waves about who's machine is better, tell them that each machine has their relative merits.
