Special Feature - Creativity. Where, why and how?
In the technology industry innovation is essential to survival. How do those companies that succeed (and continue to do so) manage to be creative with original ideas?
The first thing to remember when discussing creativity is that generalisations are almost impossible to make as everyone is different. But we have our similarities too, so even though we can't delve into specifics, there are some factors that effect us all to lesser or greater amounts.
Creativity seems to be very much reliant on one's environment, not only physically but socially also. Driving to work on a different road, reading another newspaper, travelling to foreign cultures all stir up our imaginations. Also they give our minds more tools to work with. Everything new that we experience is one more thing that our mind can use to be imaginative. Peasants in 9th century didn't dream of cars because they'd never seen them. Similarly our mind can only work with what we've experienced. Yet paradoxically children tend to be more creative than adults. Why is this?
