Watches equipped with date functions are fitted with calendars displaying dates, days, months, and in some cases, moon‒
phases. Because of the irregularities of the Gregorian calendar, watchmakers were faced with the challenge of integrating
the date function in an accurate manner, without the wearer having to adjust the calendar annually or even once every few
months. However, unlike others, watches with perpetual calendars are highly valued as they take even leap years into account
and only need to be adjusted once a century. This is achieved by an additional gear that rotates around its axis once every four
years. Lots 17 and 18 are equipped with a perpetual calendar.
