hand-woven textiles of
the Philippines’ northern
provinces, but didn’t
want to take home
another table runner?
These colorful hand-
loomed skirts, created
by stylist and production
designer Candy Reyes in
collaboration with weavers
and sewers from Bontoc,
Banaue and Benguet, will
solve your dilemma.
Candy, who is partially
based in Baguio was drawn to
the weavers there. “I became
passionate about keeping
the traditional technique
alive by making new things,

aside from personally
wanting to wear them,”
Candy says. “Each
skirt is handwoven,
handmade and takes a lot of
time to make,” she adds. The
woven fabrics are customized,
sometimes using Candy’s
own threads to create unique
colors not available on the
local market.

The combination of different
scales and hues of stripes
adds dimension to these very
wearable pieces. How to wear
one: Candy suggests dressing
them down with a tank top,
some colorful long beads and
sandals for a tropical or beach
destination. Pair them with a
button-down shirt and pumps
when travelling for business,
or layer on a cropped jacket
and a pair of wedges.
