CAN I TAKEPHOTOSAND

Yes. Theuseof small cameras or
mobiledevices for photography
andvideo is permittedonboard,
providedyou keep thepurpose
of your photography andvideo
to capturingpersonal events.
Photographingor recordingother
customers or airlinepersonnel
without their express consent
is prohibited.
PLEASENOTE
United strictlyprohibits the
modificationor useof anyobject
or device to alter or limit the
functionality, permanentlyor tem-
porarily, of any aircraft structure,
seat assembly, tray table, etc. If
you see a customer using any such
deviceor object, please inform
Unitedpersonnel immediately.
Rechargeablebatteries have a
riskof overloador firewhen
not storedproperly. Recharge-
ablebatteries shouldbe stored
in their electronic devices or
properlyprotected to avoid
contactwithmetal or other
batteries during flight. All spare
batteries shouldbeprotected
from short circuit and stowed
only inyour carry-onbags.
Advancedmobilephones, PDAs
andother personal electronic
deviceswithwireless capabili-
tiesmaybeused in flightwhen
switched to “airplane”mode. A
visibleairplane-disabledmode
shouldbe identifiableand shown
toa crewmember upon request.
Flight attendantswill notify
mobilephoneand two-way
pager userswhen it is safe to
beginplacingor receivingphone
callsor pages after landing.
One-waypagersmaybeused to
receivemessages at any time.

What is thenewportable
electronicdevicepolicy?Small,
lightweight devicesmaybe
usedonUnited-operated and
UnitedExpress flights gate-to-
gate, as long as thedevice is
secured andhas been switched
to airplanemode and/or had
the cellular datadisabled.
This policy applies to flights
operatingwithin the50U.S.
states, all U.S. territories and
select international locations
as announcedby the flight
attendant onyour flight.
Howdodevicesneed tobe
securedor stowed?Devices
maybeheld inhand (not left
unsecured around the seat)
or placed in a garment pocket
or in the seatbackpocket, as
long as thedevice is less than
2pounds. Devicesweighing
more than2poundsmust be
stowed in approved carry-on
baggage in theoverhead
compartment or under the
seat in front of youduring
take-off, taxi and landing. In
an emergency situation, all
devicesmust be turnedoff
and stowed. For international
destinations, your flight
attendantswill advise if it’s
necessary to turnoff and stow
your device.
Are thereanyexceptions to
usingpersonal devicesunder
thisnewpolicy? The captain
may request that all devices
be fully turnedoff in certain
circumstances, such as for
poor visibility landings. Please
always listen to and follow
crewmember instructions.
Does thenewpolicyallow
me tousea small notebook
laptop?No. Thenewpolicy
does not apply to laptops or
DVDplayers, whichmayonly
beusedwhen announcedby
your flight crew.
