This local gem is a suitably airy addition to the sweeping
boulevards and striking modernist architecture of Barcelona’s
Eixample neighbourhood. Specialising in Basque and Galician-
inspired small plates, such as beans with artichokes and mussels
or Iberian pork with tomato, it’s open for breakfast during the
week and most Saturdays (call to check), they serve brunch from
10am-4pm. For €20, you can have your fill of pastries, cakes,
toast with home-made jam, smoothies and fine coffee, before
visiting the nearby Sagrada Família on a decidedly full stomach.

have been coined to describe the clientele at this buzzy bistro and bar
in an alley off the Canal Saint-Martin. Expect to wait for a table for the
weekend brunch (12-4pm) if you haven’t made a reservation, as the
well-heeled locals arrive in their droves for the generous €25, three-
course menu that includes quality pastries, excellent
oeufs en cocotte
(eggs cooked in a pot), salad, freshly squeezed juice and as much coffee
as you can put away without compromising your chic cred.
