Most people couldn’t
balance on one hand for
more than a second. Denys
Tolstov has made it his life’s
work, spending much of the
past 20 years propped up on
his palm.
“I started when I was nine
in a small circus studio,” the
Ukrainian recalls. Along with
his classmates, working at
Cirque was his dream.
“It was a new kind of
circus style. Everyone
wanted to join,” he
remembers.
After achieving his
ambition, aged 18, he can’t
imagine wanting to do
anything else. “The best thing
about being in the circus is
showing people the
capabilities of the human
body – and the applause.
When you’re young, it’s a
great thing to do.”
