Her circus family
Considering that McLean’s
power track act, which she
describes as “a cross between
trampolining and tumbling”,
sees her bouncing around
with 13 others over and
under each other with
choreographed jumping on an
elasticated cross every night,
we’re not surprised to hear
that, on her off days, this is one
perfomer who likes to “just
hang out”.
Formerly an artistic
gymnast (“I wasn’t very
good”), McLean started
tumbling at 12 and joined the
circus at 19, just as
Alegría
went on a massive arena
tour. It has – she says – been
an amazing experience for a
girl just out of school.
“It’s like I’ve taken a
continuous gap year as well
as work,” she says. “The best
thing for me is getting to see
so many different countries
and they’ve paid for it all.”
