Meanwhile, the well-established Ardent on Leigh St. in Scott's Addition, after raising the roof
of their building by 12 feet to make room for them, has doubled its brewing capacity by adding
four 60 barrel tanks as it expands its distribution into Northern Virginia.
With all that expansion going on, a little negative news as Capital One decides to exit its home
mortgage origination business which will eliminate 950 jobs in Plano, TX & St. Cloud, MN but
only 10 in this area.
Sounds like Sprint & T-Mobile's merger is officially dead, after being batted around for some
time. Haven't seen Mike Walton at a meeting for a while, so not sure what effect that news will
have on him.
A couple of other projects that have survived courtroom challenges getting underway as site
work for the Seminary Apartments with Timmons in charge has got much of the 34 acre West-wood
Tract cleared and graded; while work on Dominion's power line across the James near
Jamestown also has started.
Hope everyone noticed the listing on IFMA's Career Center for the Facilities Manager position
at Collegiate School. Sounds like a good position that somebody in the Chapter might be in-terested
in.
And the race toward putting self-driving cars on the road passes another milestone as the
Waymo division of Google (which is now a division of Alphabet) launches a pilot project in a
sector of Phoenix where it's taxis have no drivers (and no “safety drivers” to take the wheel, if
needed). Passengers are all volunteers, and so far, no accidents reported. I've been wonder-ing
whether I would volunteer to take such a ride, and am wavering. How do you feel about it?
Even with a discounted fare?
