Enjoyed the chance to chat with Gene Jones during
the social hour at Bogey's. Sounds like he may be
one of the longest standing “off & on” members in the
Chapter as he goes back a number of years, but not continuously. His
current affiliation is with Modern Door, which as you can see at
www.moderndoor.com specializes in partitions of various types, many of
which are glass, and represents the first time in his career that he has
not been involved with office furniture. His office is up near Hanover Air
Park, not far from the Center of the Universe brewery where we met in
November of '13. Good to have you back with us again, Gene!
Also enjoyed talking with Markel's Corine Harvey, another even longer
time member, but her's has been continuous, and with the same em-ployer.
Ever since her grandson Chris Lykes has been in Middle School
up in the D.C. area, she has been telling me about his progress on the
basketball court and how he was being recruited by a number of Division
I colleges, even several years ahead. Only 5'7”, but apparently an excel-lent
shooter and ball handler, he made an early decision for Miami U. of
Florida, where he is already getting significant playing time as a Fresh-man,
while the team is undefeated in the early going. Haven't been able
to catch Miami on TV yet, but certainly will be able to do so with all the
coverage of ACC games we get in this area, and am looking forward to
doing so as the season progresses.
Also had a nice chat with Dave Millure of The Flying Locksmiths at the
meeting at Bogeys and keep his card handy as its always nice to have
someone to call (313 8455) if I have a problem needing a locksmith.
Since Matt Sobel & Dean Andrews both have kids in the same grade as
my grandson at Oak Knoll Middle School in Hanover County, I run into
both occasionally during the course of the school year. Dean is still with
Patient First and has been spending much of his time during the past
several years putting new urgent care centers in South Central and
Eastern Pa. and South Jersey so that their firm now has a total of 73 lo-cations.
Being away so much during this period made it impossible for
him to attend meetings or be otherwise involved in the Chapter, so Stacy
Brooks has joined the Chapter and currently represents the firm with us.
Sorry to see the Notice in the 11/21 Times Dispatch that Jere Dennison
had died at the age of 74. Jere was the Facility Manager for Blue Cross/
Blue Shield (which later became Anthem) back in the early 80's, and
was one of the original five (Ranny Robertson being the only one still ac-tive)
who joined Tom Jarrett of the Computer Company in founding the
Chapter. He served as our first VP, while Tom was the President. Had
not seen Jere since our 30th Anniversary at the Old City Bar in October
of '14, and had not heard that he was in poor health.
Speaking of early members of the Chapter, I noted that Architect Dayton
Thompson has joined forces with Commonwealth Architects and has
