JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western football team tied the record for most wins in a season, winning its ninth game of the year by defeating the 25th ranked Washburn Ichabods 56-28 on Senior Day at Spratt Stadium. Michael Hill scampered for a career-best 259 yards and three touchdowns and now holds the record for most rushing yards in regular season games with 1,688 on the season. The Griffons honored 22 seniors before the game who have won 35 games in their four-year career. Missouri Western won nine games in the following years: (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and now 2012). Missouri Western sits at 9-1 overall and 8-1 in MIAA play. Ben Jackson led the charge defensively with a career best 12 tackles. The Griffons finished with 569 yards with 418 coming on the ground. Raphael Spencer had 69 yards and a touchdown while Travis Partridge had 42 yards on seven carries and three touchdowns. Defensively Ray Cottman finished with eight tackles while Dan Ritter pitched in seven. Washburn had 375 yards with 177 on the ground and 198 threw the air. The Griffons are 9-1 through 10 games for the second time in school history (2006). The Griffons improved tp 8-4 overall and 7-1 at home in November against Washburn. The victory marked the eighth straight victory in the series and fifth straight in Emporia. The Griffons improve to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in MIAA play. Michael Hill finished the night with 185 yards while Spencer had 96 yards and a touchdown. Travis Partridge and Dominic Thomas had 55 and 53 yards respectively. Partridge also finished with 150 yards passing through the air. The Griffons finished with 532 yards on the evening. Emporia State falls to 8-1 overall and 8-1 in the MIAA. They had 376 yards with 298 through the air. Tyler Eckenrode had 290 yards passing while Shjuan Richardson had 138 yards receiving on 11 receptions and a touchdown.
