SORDID
LIVES
Theatre
On Consignment serves up a heaping helping of Southern-fried comic melodrama
with the uproarious comedy “Sordid Lives” by Del Shores. The
play will run April 14, 15, 16, 22, and 23 at 8pm and April 24 at 2pm
in the Linesight Theatre, located at 143 N. Rock Island on the third floor.
When
their sister dies, Latrelle (Terri Ingram)
and LaVonda (Deb Goin) plan her funeral --
an unenviable task, considering that the deceased passed on during a liason
with amputee G.W. (Mac Welch)--much to the
chagrin of his wife, the vindictive Noleta (Diane
Tinker). Meanwhile, the family has to come to terms with two cases
of sexual orientation: Latrelle's openly gay soap-opera star son Ty (John
Sommerhauser), whose sexuality she continues to deny; and their only
brother, Earl (Brad Purkey), who's serving
a sentence in a mental ward for being gay--and dressing up like Tammy
Wynette . Renee Purtee, Jason
Miller, Deanne Zogelman, Marcey
Gregory, Troy Dilport and David
Bailey round out the ensemble cast.
Tickets are $8 ($5 for students and seniors). Opening night tickets (Thursday,
April 14) are “Buy 1, Get 1 Free”. Seating is limited, and
tickets can be reserved by calling Theatre On Consignment at 265-2226.
The play contains some adult language and themes and is intended for mature
audiences.
