Subcultures You Never Knew Existed

When you combine loneliness with out-of-the-box ingenuity, you can come up with some pretty amazing subcultures. Here are the subcultures you never knew existed.

A few years ago, satirical newspaper, The Onion, had the following headline: "Documentary Film Industry Threatened by Shrinking Number of Unexplored Subcultures." We don't think they'd be able to make the same joke today. It seems a new subculture pops up every week, each one just a little stranger than the last. That's great! We at UGO love it when people can come together and find a little happiness. With that in mind, we've listed some of the subcultures you never knew existed. Some of these are strange, some are merely obscure, but all of them are kind of surprising.

Faeidism

Faeidism is a subculture where people believe fairies used to coexist with humans but were exiled into an overlapping universe with the invention and weaponization of iron. The goal for Faeids is to find portals through which faries can reenter our world and open them with ritual and magic. Faeids try to live their life according to a code that brings them ever closer to the fairy realm. For real.

Faeids don't go around dressing like faries, so they're a bit harder to find. You know you've got one, however, if you spot someone wearing a seven-pointed star on their clothing. This is supposedly a symbol representing the gateway between the two realms. There are also faerie conventions where people dress up, but, despite some inevitable overlapping, they're not quite the same thing.
