As announced by comic book writer Robert Kirkman on his Twitter feed, The Walking Dead has officially begun filming, as of today. And though the epic zombie-pocalypse series, helmed by Frank Darabont, won’t be on TV until October, AMC teased us with eight pictures of the zombies, as well as a behind the scenes video with Darabont himself – as well as producer Gale Anne Hurd.
To get super nerdy about it, the look of the zoms seems to be halfway between Romero and 28 Days Later – though if Darabont sticks as closely to the books as we expect, they’ll be all slow zombies, all the time (he even referenced Romero several times in the video). No rage infused runners here.
Given the internet/geek (and is there a difference, really?) pedigree of the project, we expect there to be a strong presence from AMC throughout the process, though there is no footage yet. It’s the first day, dudes. Get over it.
However, you do have this priceless quote from Darabont:
“We hope to do for zombies what Mad Men has done for advertising.”
We assume he means, “run over its foot with a tractor.” Stay tuned, zombie fans, and check out the video, embedded below.
