UFC 114 - Will Jackson Go on Another Rampage After Loss to Evans?

Balancing a movie career and a grudge match a year in the making can be a tricky thing.

Last time Quinton "Rampage" Jackson lost a fight in the Octagon (a July 2008 war with Forrest Griffin) all hell broke loose. Fueled by energy drinks, a lack of sleep, and God knows what else, Rampage led police on a high speed chase through the streets and even onto the sidewalks of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, California. After a three round shellacking at the hands of Rashad Evans, I hope someone has Rampage's keys.

The two Ultimate Fighter coaches feuded for almost an entire calendar year, including several tense face-to-face confrontations that seemed on the brink of becoming physical. After all the banter and promises of epic levels of violence, the actual fight was a strategic and strangely clinical affair. Evans used his speed and superior athleticism to avoid Jackson's power shots and take the former champion to the mat at will.

"That was more of a wrestling match than a fight,” Jackson said. “...He had a great game plan, and it worked well for him. I’m not a sore loser. That’s why I commended him. We all come for the same cloth. We all put our lives on the line and get in the Octagon and do battle.”

Next in line for Evans: an opportunity to reclaim his title against new kingpin Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. But after the fight, attention focused more on the despondent Rampage than the ever dapper Evans. Jackson was immediately off to promote The A-Team, his first (and possibly last) major movie role and seemed near tears at the thought of it.

“I've got to leave tonight to go on tour for this damn movie and everything. I regret I even did the movie almost. I'm a fighter, but I tried to go into a whole new adventure and didn’t even know anything about tours and stuff in a movie. I had no idea I had to do this,“ Jackson said, blaming the time off to film the movie for his ring rust. "I have a few movie offers on the table. They've been there for a while, but I was just focusing on this fight and I wasn't worrying about it...I got to make a decision because it looks like it would be hard to do both...I’ve just got to think about which one I want to do.”
