Star Trek used recycled footage pretty much every time it needed to show the Enterprise floating in outer space. Any weapon-firing or planet approaches were each just one piece of footage used over and over again. Planets were just re-colored as needed. In fact, if you watch the original shows in order, you can supposedly see the footage lose quality with repeated use. The shows have since been remastered with special care taken to fix a lot of its recycled footage woes, arguably taking some of the fun out of Star Trek TOS in the process.
