True Blood: It's a Jungle Out There

Will werepanthers be showing up on this season of True Blood. I mean, yes - and now we have proof.

What’s big, black, and making its way to Bon Temps? A panther, of course! Or rather, a pack of panthers, as according to TV Guide, werepanthers are joining werewolves, shapeshifters and of course vampires as the new supernatural entity on HBO’s suckfest.

For those of you who have read the books – or the wikipedia entry of the books, like I have – you know that *spoiler* Jason Stackhouse gets turned into a werepanther, doomed to be able to turn into a panther whenever he wants.

“Doomed” may have been a little strong, but with the addition of Lindsay Pulsipher as Crystal Norris – a werepanther in the novels – it seems likely that our favorite cop in training will soon be sporting a coat of fur.

Alan Ball will neither confirm or deny the rumors, though he does say they’ve been filming with real live panthers “in the same way we have shot with actual wolves.” So given that info, and given that the actual wolves are werewolves, I’m going to say that the panthers are escaped from the local zoo, and are not, in fact, werepanthers. Because I am stupid.

Meanwhile, we have yet to see the werebar introduced two episodes ago turn out to be a shapeshifting human who can turn into a bar. Fingers crossed.

So what do you think, Blood fans – are you looking forward to the werepanther invasion? Or is it too many shifting animals, too soon.
