What would you do if suddenly the 3D phenomenon wasn't just in theaters and expensive TVs anymore?  Would you be willing to don a pair of glasses if your favorite TV series suddenly started cranking out 3D episodes.

According to True Blood creator Alan Ball's latest interview with LA times, the idea might not be so far-fetched.  Ball asserts that at the request of HBO, the show has indeed filmed one sequence from the upcoming season in 3D, though mostly as a means of simply trying out the technology.

He doesn't believe the scene will actually air during the episode, but exhibits potential for future uses the show might make out of the "pretty cool" filmmaking method.  Says' Ball of its application:

"We just did it as an experiment, because I don't know if they're going to want to take the show 3D at some point, maybe like a season premiere or a season finale or something. I would be surprised if, depending on how long the show lasts, that doesn't happen at some point, especially if 3-D technology gets beyond having to wear the glasses."

"It was basically a scene that's in the show anyway, so they just also shot it with 3D cameras.  They sort of blocked it so it would lend itself to that. There was a lot of stuff in the foreground, stuff in the background, that kind of thing. I really don't believe it was tremendously difficult. If I can remember correctly I believe that the director and the cinematographer did a little seminar with the 3D camera people before we did it, and they sort of said this is what works best."

Note:  3D actors may not be as close as they appear.

But 3D blood, sex and gore aren't the only items to get your heart racing in time for True Blood's June 26th season premiere, as Showtime's press release illustrated a few casting tidbits including Vedette Lim as Tara's "new friend" Naomi, and also that the earlier announced Gary Cole would be playing Earl Stackhouse, both Sookie and Jason's late father!

The character will presumably appear in flashback, but boy that Gary Cole seems to play alot of sci-fi fathers...
