The Walking Dead Season 2 Doubts

Although we've been waiting like puppy dogs at a window for it, there are a few The Walking Dead Season 2 doubts.

Last Halloween, AMC delivered a massive shock to all of us by bringing Robert Kirkman's first few issues of The Walking Dead into a stunning first episode special. By the end of the first season, fans were treated with an event that never even showed up in the original story. It made fans of the book, which is now in its 14th collected volume, legitimately excited about a zombie show done right. It was a perfect combination of cast, mood and it pushed the boundaries of what a zombie story could be on TV.

Show runner Frank Darabont slipped off his feature director jacket and proved smart comic adaptations could be performed with the right funding and not treating fans like idiots.

Hence why we've come here not to bury Darabont, but praise him. Being dead on arrival in a zombie story can both be a major feat but an unfortunate caveat as well. It's the type of world where nothing can ever be perfect, no matter how hard someone tries, but at least it can't be as bleak as Zack Snyder's version of Dawn of the Dead. Well, not yet anyway.

Like any good survivor, let's trudge forward and we'll go over the some of our The Walking Dead Season 2 doubts.

Don't Be Heroes

We think we should mention this once again: don't become Heroes. When we think about to a great concept that embraced the comic book mentality, that was one of the few that got it right. Now, AMC's tactics are, in the words of THR's report, "there are no public comments from the cast, and a source with knowledge of the situation says AMC has been 'terrorizing' them and their representatives to discourage them from speaking out on Darabont's behalf. 'They're scared,' confirms another insider. 'They're on a zombie show. They are all really easy to kill off.'"

As viewers and as fans, we shouldn't have to find out the actors and crew we like are being threatened. In fact, we should demand that they're not treated like crap just so AMC can eek out The Walking Dead Banana Republic clothing. After years and years of practice, us nerds must realize the power we hold. If people could fight for Mad Men and Breaking Bad, we should be able to do that for Darabont. We all remember the second season of Heroes. We can't let it happen again.

Rise From Your Grave

The absolute worst thing that can happen to The Walking Dead? It gets pushed too hard. Current show runner (and writer for "Wildfire") Glen Mazzara will take over for Darabont, and other writers will include series creator Robert Kirkman, another from Rescue Me and finally another from Terriers. So, you know, four out of five isn't too bad (guess who's numero cinco). But, AMC has been pushing shock and shlock down our eye-hole in favor of methodical movement over the last few months, even when they shelved the infinitely superior Rubicon because it required more than a cursory glance to follow the plot.

The reason we loved The Walking Dead is due to the smart script and actual plotting that Darabont took from Kirkman's original body and cloned into an entirely new beast. The fact that Shane's survived so long only shows the strength of the actors and how an entirely new storyline can be woven. Who knows, maybe even the Governor could change into something new and creepier.

But we'll remain optimistic till October. After all, that's the best lesson being a fan of the comics has taught us. Until, of course, the horrible depression sets in that a favorite character is about to die or be horribly mutilated. In which case, we guess The Walking Dead series is doing it right after all.
