The Walking Dead: Reasons To Love Shane

In an environment where zombies could attack at any second, you need to know how to defend yourself from the shuffling hordes... and Shane is just the guy to teach you how. When it comes to firearms, Shane is the group's Obi-Wan Kenobi. He advocates that everyone should learn to use a gun, and does his best to train those who want to learn. For example, look at Andrea. Pre-Shane training she's flipping out, post-Shane training she becomes the friggin' Terminator and pulls more headshots than a hacker in Call of Duty multiplayer. Stick with Shane and you'll be slaying zombies with little effort.

The post-apocalyptic world is a very traumatic place and not everyone will be able to take the pressure. Relationships will collapse and some individuals will lash out. If they happen to do so on an innocent spouse, you can expect Shane to be your knight in shining armor and prevent the group from turning into an episode of Jerry Springer. Remember back in Season 1 when Ed was beating his wife, Carol? Shane resolved that quick and effectively with his fists saying hello to Ed's abusive face. He went a little overboard with the message, but regardless, it fixed the problem.

Everyone worships Rick's parental capabilities, yet spits on Shane.  Come on, what gives? Despite viewers thinking he's a selfish evil-doer, we've seen a handful of moments where Carl and Shane bonded. And how quickly we forget Shane went on that potential suicide mission with Otis to get Carl the medication he required for surgery (fret not, the Otis discussion is later in the list). Despite the horribly bleak situation they're faced with, Shane keeps matters PG with the children. Teaching them how to blow holes through zombies skulls is alright, but those kiddies are getting a lecture if they drop a swear word. The world might be dirty, but there's no reason your mouth should be, too.

If you're part of the crowd that thought Season 2 was too slow, you should love Shane! If he even suspects there are infected nearby, you can absolutely bet he'll be determined to slaughter them. The walkers were safely contained in the barn for God knows how long, but Shane couldn't resist the urge to slaughter the trapped group of zombies. Next time you think of sipping that haterade and complaining about Mr. Walsh, just realize Shane is trying to make things entertaining for you one shotgun blast at a time.
