The Planets of Doctor Who

The Doctor certainly does love to travel around Earth, doesn't he? Well, he does sometimes go offplanet. Here are a few of the planets he's visited.

Despite having many of his adventures on Earth - mostly due to budget constraints - the Doctor has been known to visit some very exciting and strange worlds in his time. These planets are scattered all around the universe, and some are even located outside those seemingly impassable boundaries. Let's take a look at a few of those cool planets!

Is your favorite planet in the whole wide Whoniverse not on this list? Talk about it in the comments. For a show with as many episodes as Doctor Who, there are far too many planets to talk about in one article. If I get enough comments, I will write a whole separate article about all the planets you readers think deserve to be mentioned. So get to commenting!

Duchamp 331

This is certainly the dustiest place in the universe. Every day, storms and rains of dust sweep this planet, which is mostly used as a refueling stop for traveling spaceships. Other than the refueling stations, there are only a small handful of businesses which make their home there. The Doctor and Ace visit this planet once to investigate what sounds like the scream of a Dalek that echoes across the planet's surface at all times of the day and night.

Eden

Don't let this planet's name fool you; it is far from a paradise. The native species that populate it are called Mandrels, and they are far from peaceful. Other creatures dwelling in this dark and foreboding endless jungle include man-eating plants that would attack and quickly consume any passing travelers. Even the Doctor almost fell victim to such a plant on his travels across the surface of Eden. This should not be on anybody's list of planets to visit.

Gallifrey

This is the home-world of the Timelords. It once was a wonderful planet of red grass, orange skies and trees with leaves of silver. The Doctor spent his youth on this planet, learning the ways of his people and even befriending the young Master, before the time vortex corrupted him. Unfortunately, this planet and its people engaged in a brutal war against the Daleks, known as the Time War. Since then, the planet’s beauty and splendor have become a thing of the past.

House

Not all planets are located within the universe. This one, for instance, is located in a small bubble universe that has sprouted from our own. Unlike many of the planets the Doctor and his companions have visited, this one has a mind of its own. It survives by consuming TARDISes -- not the shell, but the essence. And since the Doctor's TARDIS is the last one known to exist, House gladly invites the Timleord over for supper.

Mars

Ah, a familiar planet. Yes, this is the Mars that we humans know and love. It was once home to the Great Ice Warriors, who were nearly wiped out by a strange water-based creature that the Doctor called "The Flood." The Ice Warriors survived by freezing the Flood into a gigantic block of ice. Sadly, the Flood didn't stay frozen. The first Humans to colonize Mars mistook it for water and quickly began to melt it down for their own purposes, completely unaware of the danger they've put themselves into.
