It may not be 127 Hours, but we'd gladly cut our own arm off for a chance to sneak a peak at the purported 50 hours of the live-action Star Wars TV series George Lucas claims to be in possession of.

The legendary Star Wars creator and media mogul revealed in an interview with G4 over the upcoming 3D conversions of the films that the TV series remains "sitting on the shelf" for the time being due to the incredibly high costs production would entail.  Lucas also let slip that a whopping fifty hours of the series already exist, but most likely as scripts and outlines rather than any actual footage as other outlets are reporting.

Lucas remains intent on bringing the same quality of visual and audio storytelling to the TV series as in the films, though indicates that any series would need to be made for a fraction of the cost, and current filmmaking techniques lack the capacity to do so.  However, he and Lucasfilm claim to be hard at work at "revolutionizing the way movies are made" toward a fraction of their budget, thus paving the way for the long-awaited series to finally make it to air.

Plenty of TV series make it to air with exorbitant budgets these days, though likely not in the amounts George Lucas would be talking.  HBO's Game of Thrones and FOX's forthcoming Terra Nova each crafted pilots with budgets somewhere in the range of $10 to $20 million dollars.

The live-action Star Wars TV series was originally announced alongside the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (entering its fourth season now), and was set to take place in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope
