While it may be billed as a "gothic soap opera," there was no shortage of creepiness on Dark Shadows. From its eerie settings to its cast of vampires, werewolves and witches to even the way it was filmed, Dark Shadows will always hold a special place as one of the scariest TV shows of all time in the cold black hearts of horror fans.

The Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, fight a never-ending battle against horrifying demons and other terrors that go bump in the night. Supernatural has long been a cult favorite among fans of horror television based on its ongoing mysteries surrounding the Winchester clan and its awesome monsters. Truly one of the scariest TV shows out there.

Based on the infamous EC horror comic series of the same name, HBO's long-running horror anthology covered all the bases for fans of the genre - classic shock scares, mystery, the occult, sci-fi and plenty of gore to go around. Granted, it's one of Adult Swim's funniest cartoons going, but it's also one of the scariest TV shows out right now. There's never been a shortage of truly twisted elements to the show. Recently, episodes have taken a sharp turn into morbid territory, now that the band realizes that they're not only the most successful musical act in the world, but the only thing standing between Satan and the apocalypse.

David Lynch's twisted series may have been a bit too David Lynch-y for most viewers (and man, that second season really flew off a cliff), but after the first appearances of Bob, The Little Man from Another Place and the rest of the residents of the White/Black Lodge, we're guessing few viewers looked at mirrors and spotlights the same way again. To be named one of the scariest TV shows, a show needs to linger with the viewer, and Twin Peaks lingers for a very long time.
