Mad Men fans were shocked yesterday when rumors swirled that series creator Matthew Weiner confirmed he would end the show after its sixth season.  Season 4 is set to premiere this July, putting the series finale sometime in 2012 ... that is if those rumors are actually true.

As the Show Tracker blog at the Los Angeles Times reports, the only media outlet reporting the Mad Men end date as fact is The Weekly Blend, where they say Weiner made his  announcement at the National Association of Broadcasters convention last week.

AMC responded by saying they had no knowledge of an end date for the series but that they "trust Matthew's vision and that he knows where to take the show.  But with that said, M*A*S*H figured out how to stretch the Korean War for more than a decade, so stay tuned!"  Weiner himself has yet to issue a statement.  I, for one, hope the series goes on for at least another decade so we can see the characters rock some serious 70s "fashion."
