FX 'Powers' Up Its First Casting

Charles S. Dutton becomes the first actor to officially join the cast of FX pilot Powers, adapted from the Brian Michael Bendis comic of the same name.

Power up!  We still don't know who will holster up as Deena Pilgrim and Christian Walker, but any news on the casting of Powers is good news.

Thanks to Deadline, we know know that Charles S. Dutton (Alien 3, House) has earned the first official casting from the forthcoming superhero procedural pilot, nabbing the role of Captain Cross.  Cross heads up the "powers" homicide department detectives Deena Pilgrim and Christian Walker operate out of, Cross having a shared history with the latter from his days as a superhero.

As of yet there has been no word of any official castings on the two leads, though former Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler was rumored to be in talks.  Katee Sackhoff has previously expressed interest in female lead Deena Pilgrim, but has since been cast in A&E's mystery thriller pilot Longmire.

For those unfamiliar, Powers follows detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, two Homicide division inhabiting a world regularly menaced by the struggles between superhero and supervillain, or "Powers" to which they're referred.  Walker also acts as liason to the super-powered community given his own past among them.

Written by comic legend Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the series' pilot  will be written by Charles H. Eglee (who also served as an executive producer to The Walking Dead adaptation) and directed by Michael Dinner, for a likely January 2012 debut.
