Last week, we brought word of a rumored new Airbender series -- Avatar: The Legend of Korra -- thinking, "hey, Avatar fans will really get a kick out of this!" Instead it opened up a world of questions from the dedicated followers of the animated epic.
Here's what we know so far -- according to the folks at Avatar: The Last Airbender Online (and thusly confirmed in an interview with Racebending.com), The Legend of Korra will take place 100 years down the road from the current continuity, focusing on Korra, a Waterbender who will be trained by Aang. Original series creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko will be on board to helm the new series, but other than that, we're still waiting on when and where the new series will be officially announced (one would assume San Diego Comic-Con, but Dimartino told Racebending.com he hoped it would be sooner), as well as the details.
After posting our original story, the comments blew up with some pretty solid questions, for instance:
- How can there be two Avatars? Does this mean Aang has died and will be Korra's Spirit Guide (a la what Roku was to Aang)?
- Will we learn the future of Aang? Did he wind up settling down with Katara? Did they have a family?
- What will be the main conflict this time around?
- And lastly, how much of this can really be believed? After all, no one has gone on record with any hard facts (short of the title of the series, which has been confirmed)?
Some interesting queries for sure, and certainly some conversation/debate starters. That "comment" option is down there for a reason, Airbender fans -- let's hear what you have to say!
