Fox May Pass on J.J. Abrams' 'Alcatraz' Pilot

As upfront season begins, the buzz surrounding JJ Abrams' "Alcatraz" as well as other high-profile sci-fi like Wonder Woman has reportedly cooled.

Upfront season has begun, and with it early reactions and buzz surrounding the projects we've been hearing about all year.

The news isn't all good, however, as Deadline reports that initial reactions from several of the more interesting properties have been mixed to unfavorable, including J.J. Abrams time-travel pilot Alcatraz, the David E. Kelley reboot of Wonder Woman, and Ron Moore's supernatural precinct drama 17th Precinct.

Early speculation may not be taken as the final outcome, but according to the report's sources, Fox may not have continued interest in Abrams' sci-fi pilot, or with graphic novel adaptation Locke & Key.  Reportedly, Fox has secured their science fiction offerings with the full-season renewal of Fringe, which also ensures their continued relationship with Abrams.

Similarly, NBC has some harsh decisions of its own to make.  The pilot episode of Wonder Woman is still in post-production and won't be shown, but already has "early detractors."  Additionally, while all three pilots from 20th TV, the Amber Heard period vehicle Playboy, "Inception-style" thriller REM and drug-trade drama S.I.L.A, were well-recieved, the network is likely to choose only two, with REM having the least buzz.

Ron Moore's comeback vehicle 17th Precinct is also facing hard times, as despite the inclusion of so many former Battlestar Galactica alum, NBC's other magical pilot Grimm reportedly has better chances.

What do you think?  Will Abrams and Moore's pilots make it to air, or will there be a host of new faces coming to TV this Fall?  Check out the early buzz on other TV pilots, and give us your own thoughts below!
