Fringe is, most definitely, our favorite J.J. Abrams produced show currently on air that’s not LOST, and chances are, when Undercovers premieres next season, it’ll rocket all the way up to number one. So it’s with bated breath that we eagerly anticipate the season two finale, which begins part one tonight.

So what can you expect when you’re expecting the Fringe finale? Spoilers ahoy hoy, naturally.

The end of last week’s episode had the not-entirely-unexpected reveal that “The Secretary,” the mastermind behind pretty much every bad thing that’s happened to the Fringe squad, is, in fact, Walternate. Walternate, of course, is Walter Bishop’s far more sane (maybe) alternate universe double, and Peter Bishop’s actual father. And Peter just found out all of this, and is presented with his real Dad for the first time.

Given that Fringe is at its best when using the basic character relationships of Olivia/Walter/Peter as a backbone for its crazy science, we’ll start there: these last two episodes are going to be about Peter, presented with the choice of returning to Earth-2 with Walternate, or staying with Walter Bishop. If I was a betting man (and I bet you I am), I’d say Peter will choose to stay on “our” Earth not just because Walter is the man who raised him, but also for Olivia. Oh, and also probably some mucky-muck about “if you return to the alternate universe, you will cause the destruction of both our worlds blah blah blah.”

So that’s Peter, but what about Walter? We’ll probably get him back to being a babbling mess, like how we first found him in episode one – because TV loves nothing more than hitting the rest button. But more than anything, we’re looking forward to the inevitable Walternate/Walter Bishop showdown. In fact, I’m kind of hoping Walternate throws Walter into the alternate universe, and secretly takes his place for the beginning of next season. Everybody will ask, “Hey Walter, what’s up with your goatee,” and he’ll just stroke it (his goatee – gross, guys), and laugh, and then Kirk will beam in and save the day.

Speaking of Kirk – or rather, not at all, speaking of Spock, it’s a lock that Leonard Nimoy will be appearing in these last two episodes as, spoiler, we’re talking to him on the phone about it tomorrow. So look for info on what William Bell has been up to next week right here on UGO.com, plug plug plug.

And finally, Olivia. So integral to the Season One finale, and the producers have promised a similar game changer in these last two episodes. Our bets are that Olivia has more than a little something to do with this, though the focus will stay on Peter and Walter.

Oh, and here’s a definite spoiler for you all: the whole team – Broyles included - is heading over to the alternate universe. How’s that for ya?

So what do you think, Fringe fans? How do you want to see Season Two go out?
