Why the New Season of Fringe Might Make You Lose Your Mind

The third season of Fringe will straddle two realities with alternating episodes.  But the real question is which one will get higher ratings?

By now, fans of Fringe are accustomed to watching Olivia, Peter, Walter and the rest of the gang weave their way through the alternaverse and back.  But if what executive producer J.H. Wyman is saying about the new season holds any LSD-tainted water, we're in for some serious mind melting.

Don't expect Agent Dunham to get a reality check anytime soon.  Olivia, as we know her, will be on extended holiday in the alternaverse, leaving Alt-Agent Dunham to tinker in our world for a bit.  The result, says Wyman, is that this season of Fringe "will feel like we have two shows in one."

However, the two divergent paths our Fringies and their alts take serve to hammer home a single theme; how would life be different if we made different choices?

Aside from Wyman's comments on the new season, we've got a few more clues that lead us to believe it's going to be a real bender.  Josh Jackson told Blastr that episodes will alternate, if you will, between our world and the alternaverse.

"We'll spend our time over there where everybody's messing with our Olivia, and then over here we have this crazy double agent in our midst...One, three, five, seven, nine. Every odd-numbered episode. I'm jealous of that [opportunity], and then on the flip side, it's really nice to have every other episode off. So, I have a funny feeling I'll get over it," said Jackson.

Our favorite Fringie, Jasika Nicole, confirmed the duality in an with interview Michael Ausiello.  She also may have dropped a wee spoiler about Olivia and Alt-Olivia facing off.  My money's on the blonde.

Fringe season three premieres Thursday, September 23rd at 9pm on FOX.
