Boy, it's been a good long while since we've had any news to report on the Dr. Horrible front, but Joss Whedon himself was kind enough to drop a few updates!
Speaking with the New York Times on The Avengers and all things Dr. Horrible, the Buffy creator countered the possibility of ever seeing the good Doctor on a Broadway stage, implying that "my heart is more in the idea of a sequel."
The greatest difficulty in finally mounting a sequel to the famed internet musical composed, shot and released out of Whedon's own pocket during the 2007 Writer's Strike will be coordinating the schedules of its lead actors. Neil Patrick Harris maintains active duty on How I Met Your Mother through 2012, while Nathan Fillion remains committed to Castle and even Felicia Day has production on The Guild to worry about.
Still, ever the optimist, Whedon did have a few updates to go on, saying:
"We've got several songs near completion and we've got a very specific structure. We've just all got jobs. And it's not like Neil, Nathan and Felicia ain't busy either. We get together at Christmas and family occasions, and then play each other our partial songs and go, "Yup, that's still exactly as it was the last time we played it. We're great."
And the sequel's title, among other details?
It’s going to be “Dr. Horrible and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” And it’s going to be just as good as the other one. I don’t know why people are upset about that title. And by the way, by the time we finish it, Neil will be just as old. No, I’m not saying anything."
Hey, at least we're making progress.
What do you think? Will Dr. Horrible ever truly see a "Brand New Day," or remain stuck in a freeze-ray, slipping away?! Could I do this all day? So they say!
