Following Eddie Murphy and Feivel’s leads, Doctor Who will be heading to the United States for the two-part episode that kicks off the next season.
According to BBC America, the episodes will take the Doctor – and presumably companions Amy and Rory – to the other side of the Pond for the first time ever. Well, at least the first time ever for real. Says Steven Moffat, writer of the two-parter (and Showrunner):
“The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually! And of course every Doctor Who fan will be jumping up and down and saying he’s been in America before. But not for real, not on location - and not with a story like this one! Oh, you wait!”
Further adding to the excitement, the episodes will be filmed on location in... Utah! I know, I just vomited with happiness, too. For those of you who don’t know, Utah is a state best known for housing the majority of the United States Mormon population, and maybe some other stuff, but mainly that. Given the setting and the multiple companions that will be featured this season, one can only assume that Doctor Who will be following a similar plot path to Big Love, or Sister Wives.
Seriously though, you folks: Utah may sound exotic and exciting for those outside of the USA, but we know it’s about as far from exciting and exotic as you can go. It’s a weird choice, and I hope it’s not just to shoot in one of Utah’s many deserts, because they could have done that back home.
That aside, hey, any news about Who is good news, and we’re excited that they’re excited. I feel like their grandpa saying that, but really, bully for them trekking all over the world to jazz things up a bit. Utah jazz things up. If you know what I mean.
And to be even more fair, the episodes – which are set in the sixties – will take The Doctor from Utah, all the way to the Oval Office. Though I’m guessing not the actual Oval Office. Maybe just an oval office. We’ll see.
The two-part episode kicking off-season “six” will air sometime in the Spring, and as previously reported, the new series will be split in two to maximize the cliffhangers, excitement, and hopefully ratings. Hey, we’ll be watching.
