Michael C. Hall and the Dexter gang are back, and after the craziness of last season, we’re eager to see where Dexter’s headed next.

When we left off, Dexter succeeded in killing off Jordan, and Lumen realized that she didn’t feel the need to kill people after she was avenged, leaving for a better life. Deb came this close to finding out Dexter’s secret, but let him carry on with his vigilante justice. He’s more alone than ever now, not knowing if he’ll ever be able to rid himself of the dark passenger.

And here’s what went down in “Those Kinds of Things”:

  • Dexter’s voiceover informs us that, “There are times in our lives when everything seems to go wrong.” Basically describing everything that’s happened in the last five seasons. Then he says, “There are other times when everything goes just perfectly,” as he stabs two paramedics who have been offing people for their body parts and then electrocutes them with a defibrillator. The good old vigilante justice system, back in action.
  • Batista’s sister, played by the lovely Aimee Garcia, has been watching Harrison for Dex, as he has bought the apartment next door.
  • Harrison is interviewing for preschools, because the nuns are under the impression that you can’t start prepping them for the Ivys early enough. The religious aspect of the school throws Dexter off though, as he’s not really keen on beliefs. He’s given a bit of thought to what he doesn’t want to pass on to Harrison, but hasn’t really thought about what he does.
  • Quinn and Deb are back together. Quinn’s been acting weird all episode and Deb’s noticed, but that’s only because Quinn’s got a ring and plans to propose at any minute. Before he gets the chance, a random shooter busts into the restaurant while the two were having dinner, and although Deb manages to take him down, a stray bullet nicks her in the process.
  • Laguerta and Batista have divorced, but they’re still on amiable terms. She’s been promoted to Captain Laguerta, as she’s found some dirt on Captain Matthews and is totally using it to get the promotion, and Batista’s got a promotion of his own as the new lieutenant of homicide.
  • Dexter attends his 20th high school reunion. Deb thinks it’s so he can get laid, but he’s more interested in avenging the apparent suicide of an old acquaintance. Even though he thought he was invisible during high school, but people seem to recognize him left and right. Harry tells him that because he’s recently had a personal tragedy, he’s grown more attractive, and he’s got a cool job, he is now “popular.” So flying under the radar to kill the abusive jock Joe Walker is going to prove a little difficult.
  • Dex hits up the alumni flag football game instead to get a blood sample from Walker, giving him proof that Joe did, in fact, kill his wife.
  • Back at the reunion, Trisha the former prom queen gives Dexter a proper thank you for letting her cheat off him all those years ago in high school, and he uses her phone to send a text to Walker to get him to meet outside the school. Walker puts up quite a struggle, but Dex gets a hold on him and straps him to his table – in this case, the scoreboard.
  • Turns out Walker shot his wife to prevent paying for a divorce, but before Dexter can stab him he spots a tattoo of Jesus. Curious, Dexter asks Walker to defend his beliefs, but whacks him in the head with a mallet when he starts to get wordy and stabs the ever-living soul out of him.
  • In this episode’s subplot, Miami Metro finds some internal organs near a fruit vendor stand, but no body. A couple of days later the body, sans intestines, washes up on shore with the Greek Alpha Omega stitched into its chest. They cut open the stitches as seven snakes slither out. Dexter realizes that the mastermind behind the murderer put a lot of time and effort into the kill. Little does he know, the two men behind the kill are plotting their next move on behalf of religion. And that’s all for Dexter season six premier!

This season promises to get thicker and thicker, as Dexter continues to appease his dark passenger and deal with new issues like faith, belief, and being a good father, all rolled into one.
