Dexter Season 6: Reasons He Should Have Been Caught By Now

Dexter is back for season six and ready to meet his maker, but can our favorite blood spatter anaylst avoid jail for another season?  We count down the Reasons Dexter Should Have Been Caught By Now.

Dexter's sixth season arrives on Showtime October 2nd this year with fans darkly dreaming over all the latest tidbits, from the trailer debuted at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con panel to Edward James frakkin' Olmos joining the cast as a new religious-themed baddie.

Not only that, but Dexter inching ever closer each season to being discovered has thoughts racing in all our minds whether Season 6 will finally see our favorite serial killer's deeds brought to light for all to see! Deb nearly walked right in on Dexter and Lumen cleaning up after Jordan Chase in Season 5, a sure sign of things to come and a dark discovery ahead.

But with family and friends alike closing in on Dexter, how many more seasons can we have before the he finds himself behind bars? And for that matter, what mistakes has he already made that may ultimately contribute to his downfall? Could Dexter really have remained free all this time, carrying on his dark duties right under the noses of the Miami Metro PD?

You trusted readers certainly wouldn't get any bright ideas from learning how to avoid Dexter's missteps, but we've got a heaping helping of mistakes and murder no-no's that should have put dear Dexter away a long time ago!  Find any other glaring errors we may have missed, or perhaps you'd like to act as Dexter's dark defender and tell us we're wrong?

Hit us with your best shots in the comments section below as we reveal the reasons Dexter should have been caught by now!

Lumen

Whether or not you enjoyed Dexter's fifth season and Julia Stiles' Lumen, we were glad to see that the character wasn't killed off as a simple return to status quo. That said, she does leave something of a loose end in Dexter's world as one of the few survivors to be in on Dexter's dark habits.

So with Lumen out there in the world with all her new knowledge, what's to stop the character from exposing Dexter's secrets when he goes too far or, worse yet, being used as a pressure point by future villains looking to put the squeeze on Dexter? Something tells us Harry wouldn't approve of such a liability....

Miguel Prado

We completely empathized with Dexter's need to maintain a casual friendship as part of his social development. We understood that that relationship would inevitably take its dark turn toward bringing Miguel Prado in on Dexter's secret.

Next time, let's look for some lower profile-friends. Someone without the power of the Assistant District Attorney, and politically savvy enough to keep plenty of secret dirt on Dexter should the need arise. We saw a bit of Miguel's manipulations with the cow-bloodied shirt, but we have to believe someone as cunning as the ADA would think to have multiple fail safes in place for someone as dangerous as Dexter.

Astor and Cody

Before being conveniently written out of the series to coincide with Rita's death, we have to believe the children underwent some intense interviews from both police and social services alike.

Neither Astor nor Cody observed anything dark or incriminating about Dexter that might send up a few red flags for a social worker? What of Dexter's former Irish nanny, now replaced by Angel Batista's young sister for the coming season? If walls could talk, surely Dexter could arouse someone's cause for concern.

Suspicious Trash Bags

People carry trash, sure. Less common, however, is a muscular and discreet man routinely carrying heavy garbage bags (which even Liddy theorized could contain bodies) to his boat, and returning to shore without them.

So between police patrols, random passerbys, and the constant video suveillance that follows us everywhere we go, no one ever once observed or thought to question the creepy sight of Dexter discreetly disposing of his latest victim? Curious....

Lila West

Dexter has always meticulously planned his kills down to every detail. Crucial among these details was to dispose of the remains. So once our Bay Harbor Butcher had followed Lila to Paris to exact his revenge, one question still remains: what became of the body?

Left for French authorities, who might investigate her most recent American contacts? Discarded of in an unfamiliar landscape in which Dexter would have no means to guarantee it stay hidden? We're guessing he didn't ship her through customs in trash bags! In the real world, this kill would certainly come back to haunt us again.
