UPDATE: According to Showtime's official press release: "Hanks, who will appear in all twelve episodes, will play Travis, a highly intelligent young expert on ancient artifacts who gets linked to a series of grisly murders in Miami."
The notice also points out that production will begin in Los Angeles in June, for a Fall premiere.

Remember last year, before season five of Dexter debuted and new guest stars joined the fray every five minutes, regardless of the size of their role?
Well good news, everybody! TVLine reports that Colin Hanks, son of legendary actor Tom Hanks has joined the cast of Dexter's sixth season for a "major" new arc! The Hollywood royalty actor had most recently been seen heading up Fox's failed cop dramedy The Good Guys, and prior to that a short run on Mad Men as Peggy Olson's neighborhood priest.
There are no specifics available regarding Hanks' role in the coming season, which will reportedly place the relationship of Dexter and Debra under the microscope. Hanks also fits the mold of at least one of the three season six guest roles previously announced, though TVLine believes the details of the role will be kept tightly under wraps as with guest stars in previous seasons.
It's also of interest to note that Dexter's sixth season is said to once again avoid the format of having a singular villain, but as Showtime president David Nevins insists “There’s one interesting story that will move through the season, and it will be cast very interestingly, but it’s not exactly that one person.”
