Cameras may have started rolling only a month ago, but the rumor mill surrounding the fifth season of Showtime's runaway dark dramedy hit Dexter has been churning out some juicy tidbits about those closest to the closet serial murderer with a heart of gold. Sure, Dex may have his demons, but as far as his friends and family, well, they've got problems of their own.
Let's start with LaGuerta and Batista's not-so-steamy marriage, which seemed doomed from the get go -- and may very well be. "[LaGuerta] is in love and she married him, but she's never done this," Lauren Valez (who plays LaGuerta) recently hinted to TV Guide. "Personally, I think she's going to head for the hills. She's worked so hard to obtain this position, but now it's the battle: Do I hand this in for this guy, or do I hold on to everything I fought for?"
Meanwhile, what's gonna happen to the newly orphaned Cody and Astor? According to executive producer Sara Colleton, Rita's post-mortem plight will be examined closely next season. "Cody and Astor are somewhat insulated from Dexter’s world, but it is something that is going to haunt Dexter," explained Colleton to Spoiler TV. "That’s a very provocative issue that we are going to explore."
And finally, after four seasons, will Dexter's sister Deb finally uncover the secret of his extracurricular activities? According to a TV Guide interview with Colleton, "For right now, it's run its course, we have to create a little bit of a safe haven before we pull the rug out on the poor boy."
