You can tell that Dexter is getting close to the end now, and with only 3 episodes left, the action is really starting to pick up. Dexter is wrapped up in doing for Travis the one thing he cannot seem to do for himself: getting rid of his Dark Passenger. Dex fixates on the task the whole episode, made more potent by his belief that Geller is a real and tangible influence that can be disposed of. Deb, Quinn, Batista, and even Jamie’s plotlines provide background chatter for this episode, as its main buildup is the reveal at the end.
The internet has been screaming about it for weeks, so read on to see what exactly when down with this week’s Dexter.
The episode picks up right where we left off: with Dexter and Travis in the abandoned church. Dexter frees Travis from his chains and the two try to figure out what Geller’s next move is. He sets Travis up in a hotel and heads off to follow a lead from one of Geller’s notebooks.
- Deb’s therapy sessions serve to remind us just how much crap she’s been through – she was engaged to a serial killer, fell in love with someone twice her age, who was then shot in front of her, her brother is secret serial killer but also an emotionally-closed off enigma, and, to top it off, Doomsday’s latest tableau is particularly gruesome for the whole team.
- Miami Metro knows that Geller’s got another tableau coming up, but they have no leads other than Geller’s recent blog post. The manage to track Geller’s IP address to the storefront next to the church, but that’s as far as they get. Dexter, on the other hand, used the note he found in Geller’s things to track down an atheist professor named Trent Casey, whom Travis identifies as Geller’s enemy. He visits Casey’s class and tries to warn him, but Casey won’t believe him without proof.
- Mr. Morris drops by Miami Metro. He’s the father of the unfortunate call girl killed in the case that LaGuerta forced Deb to close last week – Jessica Morris. At the prompting of her therapist, Deb stands up to LaGuerta and lets her know that she’s reopening the case. We follow LaGuerta to where she meets with Captain Matthews, and apparently he’s the one who was in the room when the call girl OD’d and tried to perform CPR.
- While staking out Casey’s office, Travis spots Geller walking towards the building, and he and Dex rush out after him. Dexter takes the elevator to head Geller off at the top of the stairs, but it gets stuck and Travis pries the door open. By the time they’ve arrived to Casey’s office, the only thing that’s left are some blood spots.
- Quinn and Batista drive halfway across town because Quinn left his gun in the backseat of the car of a woman he met on his rampage last night. Even though Batista has gone out of his way to get Quinn back up and at 'em, Quinn hurls insult after insult at Batista and the two get into a fistfight.
- The next morning, Miami Metro gets called to the Casey’s lecture hall where the poor sap is dead upon his desk in the next tableau: The Bowls of Wrath. Casey’s been drained of blood and missing his hand. Even though Mike assures everyone that the team swept the place for any trip wires or booby traps, they must have missed something, because the minute Masuka lifts Casey’s stump of a hand, blood rains from the ceiling.
- Travis wakes up the next morning with “Bring the False Prophet to the Church” written in blood on the wall and Casey’s severed hand in his sink. He sneakily gets Dexter to meet him at the church and enters through the front as Dexter takes the back. Travis meets up with Geller first, with Geller giving him a last shot at redemption. Meanwhile, Dex has his own confrontation with Harry in the kill room. He’s intent on ridding Travis of Geller so that he can get a hold of his own dark passenger to be a better father to Harrison.
- The music swells ominously as Dexter searches the church. He finds Travis unconscious on the floor, and heads down a trapdoor underneath the altar where he finds, frozen and quite clearly long dead, the body of Geller himself. And thousands of Fight Club fans scream “I told you so!” as Dexter realizes that Travis has been acting alone this whole time.
