“The darkness got in deep. Never left me, never will.”

Miami Metro doesn’t make nearly as much progress with Doomsday this week as Dexter himself does. But on the topic of religion and all things faith, Dexter still struggles. His burgeoning relationship with Brother Sam takes a hit this week, but not in the way you would think. Read on to find out what exactly’s going down with Doomsday:

  • Masuka has replaced Ryan with a new intern named Luis. He’s pretty handy with computers, and works his magic so that all traces of the Ice Truck Killer evidence being sold online are gone. The evidence is still out there, but at least now it can’t be traced back to Masuka.
  • Dexter discovers that the backing on the wings is made out of special paper used in manuscript restoration. Always the company man, he keeps his findings to himself and heads over to the museum to do some research. He glimpses Travis’ face in a video about restoration, but through the wonders of the internet, Dex is able to get his name, address, and his (non-existing) criminal record.
  • Breaking into Travis’ house, Dex finds a whole bunch of things linking him to Gellar – a degree from the university Geller taught at, books with suspiciously highlighted phrases, and an old bible with the same numbering system as the slips of paper being found hidden in each of the bodies.
  • Quinn and Batista speak with Geller’s old TA, Professor Porter. The two were more than close, and even though she wasn’t the first brunette TA Geller had a thing for, she’s still defending him, convinced that his eccentricity doesn’t mean he’s Doomsday.
  • Quinn spends the night with Porter, even though it has the potential to completely mess up the investigation, and when Batista goes to pick him up the next morning, he finds some of Geller’s old notes...notes in which Geller has drawn pictures of the exact crime scenes Doomsday’s been replicating.
  • Brother Sam and Dexter bond over beers at Dex’s apartment after they run into each other at Miami Metro. Even with Dexter’s close relationship to various killers over the season, Dexter is the most honest with Brother Sam he can be about his darkness. Brother Sam reasons that it only takes a little bit of light to keep the darkness at bay, and there are so many little things that can be lights for Dexter – like Harrison.
  • In an unrelated murder-suicide crime scene, Dexter and Anderson get to hang out for a bit while examining the bodies, and Dexter lets Anderson know that even though Miami Metro is a bit of a motley crew, they’re all good at what they do. They have to be, with the amount of serial killers that are drawn to this city. The landlord who owns the apartment is desperate to get new renters, so Anderson helps Deb score the place for reduced rent due to the fact that two dead bodies were just removed from it.
  • Geller and Travis know that Miami Metro’s on to them, and so Geller lets Travis find the next victim solo. His first attempt is a bit of a failure, actually, it’s a huge failure and he almost gets caught. Geller helps him out with the next one – as the two wait in the car Geller slams Travis’ foot on the gas to ram a young couple. They nab the girl for whatever crazy scene they’re ready to play out next.
  • Seems a bit hasty, but Dex goes after Travis the next evening. He pulls his usual wait-in-the-backseat-with-a-strangling-tool move, and while they are driving to the destination of Dex’s choosing, Travis pins the killing on Geller. He wants to kill them, sure, but he’s unable to. Dexter lets him go, deciding that it would be more useful to let Travis lead him to Geller than just taking him out.
  • And the twist in this episode’s final minutes comes with the shooting of Brother Sam. Poor guy’s shot three times in his garage by a mystery man.

But, good news, preview for next week shows that Brother Sam isn’t dead just yet, although he looks pretty worse for wear in the hospital. What will this mean for Dex? Tune in to Showtime next Sunday for “Just Let Go” to find out!
