It just wouldn't be San Diego Comic-Con without a visit from the stars and creators behind some of Adult Swim's greatest shows! We're talking Robot Chicken, Metalocalypse, Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1 (formerly Aqua Teen Hunger Force), The Venture Bros. and Squidbillies!
We already know that Childrens Hospital will host its own panel, Robot Chicken, and The Venture Bros. as well, so where does that leave Adult Swim's other big names? Last year Adult Swim hosted a joint panel featuring Robot Chicken's Seth Green Tom Root and Matthew Seinreich, Metalocalypse's Brendon Small, and The Venture Bros.' Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, even though they later had their own panel.
More updates will arrive, so keep it here for all the latest Adult Swim news from Comic-Con 2011!
National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle
Though they were originally
best known for their wacky, surreal cartoons, in recent years Cartoon
Network's Adult Swim has branched out into wacky, surreal live action
series as well. And the newest one? NTSF:SD:SUV
The acronym stands for National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego:
Sport Utility Vehicle, and stars The League's Paul Scheer, who is also
the show's creator. The show debuted last night, but at the NTSF:SD:SUV we got a look at a future episode as well as hearing from the show's
cast.
- If you haven't seen it, the show takes influence from procedurals like CSI, 24 and other overly serious television.
- The episode we were shown featured Adam Scott of Party Down and Parks & Recreation fame. He was in a wheelchair, also hilarious.
- Scott's character, who is "Van Damme good," gets a tip about terrorist cells. Terrorist cell phone programmed to blow up people's heads.
- NTSF:SD:SUV has its fair share of eye patches. Maybe more than its fair share.
- Weedwacker vs. leafblower!
- The panel
included Paul Scheer, Brandon Johnson, June Raphael, Martin Starr, John
Stern, the show's writer and executive producer, writer and producer
Curtis Gwinn and Robert Picardo.
- With only 11 minutes and 52 seconds left, Scheer decided that instead of opening up to questions, they were going to film an actual scene for a future episode.
- Then they
decided to open the floor to questions, but just to Robert Picardo, who
used to appear on Star Trek: Voyager and will be a guest star on
NTSF:SD:SUV.
- Instead, the cast handed out t-shirts that say "San Diego Day," which, apparently, is a reference to an upcoming episode of the show.
- With a couple minutes to go before they needed to start filming, a fan asked about influences on the show. After some joking, shows like CSI, NCSI, 24 and Hawaii Five-O were namedropped.
- Threats were made to start a Facebook page advocating a role for Picardo in Jurassic Park 4.
- The
scene involved some exclusive footage from The Hobbit threatening to be
shown, with limited direction from the panel and absolutely no context.
Then some separate audience reaction shots of people freaking out and
cheering. We're gonna be on the television!
- Paul Scheer's wig is even more ridiculous in person.
